    Mission and Purpose

In harmony with the mission statements of Lee University the School of Engineering equips students for faithful and effective service through rigorous preparation in mathematics, engineering, computing, and data-driven disciplines. The School of Engineering emphasizes excellence in teaching, interdisciplinary engagement, and scholarly and applied inquiry.

Across all programs, students develop strong mathematical reasoning, a deep understanding of engineering design and problem-solving processes, and proficiency in algorithmic and computational thinking. Graduates are prepared to think critically, communicate clearly, and apply disciplined analysis to complex real-world problems.

Through the intentional integration of Christian faith and academic study, the School of Engineering promotes the highest standards of professional competence, ethical responsibility, and stewardship. Students are challenged to recognize and cultivate their God-given gifts and talents and to use them to serve others and contribute constructively to their communities and professions.

    Mathematics

The mathematics programs provide a rigorous foundation in mathematical theory, structure, and application. Students develop logical reasoning, abstraction, proof techniques, and quantitative problem-solving skills essential for advanced study and professional practice. The curriculum prepares graduates for graduate study in mathematics, careers in research, statistics, and actuarial science, and further study in engineering and related technical fields. Emphasis is placed on mathematical thinking as a unifying language across scientific and computational disciplines.

    Mathematics Education

The mathematics education program prepares students for initial licensure as mathematics teachers at the middle and secondary levels while maintaining strong disciplinary depth in mathematics. The program emphasizes conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and effective communication of mathematical ideas. Students develop the pedagogical and curricular skills necessary to design instruction that fosters student understanding, perseverance, and analytical thinking, while also being well prepared for graduate study in education or mathematics-related fields.

    Engineering

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering provides an interdisciplinary engineering education grounded in mathematics, science, and engineering principles. Students gain experience with the engineering design process, systems thinking, modeling, and analysis while being exposed to multiple engineering domains. This broad foundation equips graduates with adaptability and technical fluency,

preparing them for professional engineering careers, entry into specialized engineering fields, or advanced graduate study. Emphasis is placed on ethical responsibility, teamwork, and the application of engineering solutions to real-world challenges.

    Computer Science

The computer science program prepares students for careers in computing and for graduate study in computer science and related fields. The curriculum balances programming experience, theoretical analysis, and mathematical rigor, with particular emphasis on algorithm design, data structures, and computational problem solving. Students learn to analyze complex systems, reason formally about computation, and implement efficient and reliable software solutions across a variety of application domains.

    Data Science

The data science program prepares students to extract insight and value from complex data through the integration of mathematics, statistics, computation, and domain-based reasoning. Students develop skills in data modeling, algorithmic analysis, statistical inference, and computational tools for managing, visualizing, and interpreting data. The program emphasizes ethical data practices, clear communication of results, and the application of data-driven methods to problems in science, engineering, business, and society. Graduates are prepared for data-focused careers or advanced study in data science, analytics, statistics, or related fields.
