In harmony with the mission statements of Lee University and its College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Mathematical Sciences strives to equip students for success in mathematics through its commitment to excellence in teaching, interdisciplinary studies, and innovative research. Majors are provided with a foundation in mathematics to enable them to think critically, communicate clearly, and perform successfully in their vocational calling. Through the integration of faith and its academic disciplines, the department promotes the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior. Students are challenged to discover and use their God-given gifts and talents to make a positive impact in their world.
Mathematics
The mathematics programs (Mathematics (MATHS.BS) , Mathematics, Actuarial Science Emphasis (MATAS.BS) , MATPE.BS) prepare students for graduate study in mathematics and careers in research, statistics, and actuarial science, as well as for further study in engineering.
Mathematics Education
The mathematics education program (MATHS.BST) prepares graduates for initial employment as mathematics teachers in middle and secondary schools and entrance to graduate schools. The program emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving, and development of curriculum and pedagogical skills.
Engineering Science
The Engineering Science degree (Engineering Dual Degree (EGRSC.BS) ) is offered in partnership with Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN, and The University of Tennessee - Chattanooga in Chattanooga, TN. This unique program allows students, upon completion of a prescribed curriculum at Lee, to transfer seamlessly to one of the partner institutions and complete a baccalaureate engineering degree from that institution, and to complete their Lee University degree by transfer.
Computer Science
The Computer Science program (Computer Science (CMPSC.BS) ) prepares students for careers in computing as well as for graduate study in computer science. The program focuses on providing programming experience, theoretical analysis, and mathematical rigor.
