Helen DeVos College of Education Master Graduate Studies in Athletic Training

William E. Estes, Dean

Taz Kicklighter, Director of Graduate Programs in Athletic Training

The Master of Science in Athletic Training prepares students for a career as a health-care professional in athletic training. A certified athletic trainer has numerous employment possibilities, including college and university intercollegiate athletic programs, interscholastic athletics, professional sports, corporations, and in clinic and hospital-based programs. Athletic training students have the opportunity to develop applied technical and clinical skills while working with the athletic programs at Lee University and in our affiliated sites such as local high schools, orthopedic clinics, and physical therapy centers. The Master of Science in Athletic Training degree is a full-time, 2-year program (including a summer) providing athletic training students with an effective blend of evidence-based didactic information, clinical experiences for skill and theory integration, and exposure to a variety of practice settings for athletic trainers. The program is in full compliance with CAATE accreditation standards, which allows graduates to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC). Graduate Athletic Training Handbook   is offered online and contains details on all program policies and procedures of the Athletic Training Education Program.

Once applicants are accepted into the Master of Science in Athletic Training Program, they are expected to be knowledgeable about various policies, such as standards of dress, social media, student health, retention, disciplinary procedures, filing grievances, and BOC endorsement, which can be found in the Graduate Athletic Training Handbook  . In addition, students are responsible for the following fees:  Athletic Training Assessment (ATEP 500, ATEP 501, ATEP 502, ATEP 503, and ATEP 504) of $75. NOTE: Other course fees may apply depending on course requirements. The student is responsible for travel (no more than 45 miles) to reach their assigned site. Each student will be financially responsible for all clinical attire.

As a student in training for a health profession, all students must be trained in OSHA, HIPAA, BBP and IPE. A strong emphasis is placed on medical ethics, confidentiality, and positive professional disposition.

Lee University’s MSAT has been nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training (CAATE) since 2010.
