Primary Applied Study Distribution


Bachelor of Music in Performance (24 hours total)

Applied study will be spread over 8 semesters. The student must study the applied principal instrument until successfully completing the semester of the senior recital.

First year (6 credits) - 3 credit hours per semester
Second year (6 credits) - 3 credit hours per semester
Third year (6 credits) - 3 credit hours per semester
Fourth year (6 credits) - 3 credit hours per semester

 

Bachelor of Music Education (7 hours total)

Applied study will be spread over at least 7 semesters. The student must study the applied principal instrument until successfully completing the semester of the senior recital.

First year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Second year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Third year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Fourth year (1 credit) - 1 credit hour for the first semester

 

Bachelor of Arts in Music - (6 hours total)

Applied study will be spread over at least 5 semesters. If completing in 5 semesters, one of the semesters must be for 2 credits.  Students electing the senior recital option must continue applied study of the principal instrument until the semester of the recital is successfully completed.  The following sequence is suggested:

First year (2-3 credits) - 1-2 credit hours per semester
Second year (2-3 credits) - 1-2 credit hours per semester
Third year (1 credit) - 1 credit hour in the first semester

 

Bachelor of Science in Music - Music Business Emphasis (8 hours total)

Applied study will be spread over 7 semesters. If completing in 7 semesters, one of the semesters must be for 2 credits.  Music Business students are required to successfully complete a final project or give a recital in their primary applied area of study. If the student wishes to give a recital, the student must study the applied principal instrument until successfully completing the semester of the senior recital. The following sequence of study is suggested:

First year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Second year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Third year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Fourth year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester

 

Bachelor of Music in Music and Worship (8 hours total)

Applied study will be spread over at least 7 semesters. If choosing the recital option, the student must study the applied principal instrument until successfully completing the semester of the senior recital. The following sequence of study is suggested:

First year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Second year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Third year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester
Fourth year (2 credits) - 1 credit hour per semester

Note:

  • Students may request additional hours in applied music beyond the minimum requirement.
  • The year designation applies to the status in the major, not the number of years at the university.
