ANTH 339 - Inner Asia A general analysis of the social, cultural and political history of Inner Asia. This course is designed to give students a broad overview of the region and a specific knowledge of the major civilizations that have emerged from the Central Eurasian steppe. From the rise of Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire in the 13th century to the current state of Inner Asia, the course will examine topics such as Mongolian politics, social organization, kinship, economics, nomadic pastoralism, shamanism, Tibetan Buddhism and the effects of modernization on local cultures.
