EDUC 612 - Introduction to Comparative and International Education: Global Learning through Travel Abroad This course examines why certain educational issues and practices are of fundamental concern around the world through travel abroad. This course includes describing the field of comparative and international education (aims, methods, scope) and comparing structures, influences, and issues between national and international systems. Special attention will focus on different themes, contexts, and practices regarding the selected country by the faculty. Dependency theory and world-systems theory are used to provide relevant theoretical frameworks for approaching educational issues in a variety of complex educational and organizational settings.
This course is open to all graduate/professional and non-degree students from any Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) institution. It is anticipated that this course will provide students with a foundation to explore potential careers in international educational development and/or Christian missionary work in education, both in schools/universities and non-governmental organizations. All students are expected to come to class equipped and participate fully in the discussion, whether on site at the Lee University campus or online.
Credit Hours: 3 Notes Additional Fee: A program fee (e.g., dormitory, dining hall, bus transportation, admission to excursions) and roundtrip airfare fee is required.
